Well, actually, I lied – it’s not completely different. But different enough to be refreshing and thought-provoking enough for the two awesomeness-detectors on either side of your head.
Beat poetry, or ‘slam’ poetry as it’s more loosely known in the States, is the spoken word in the very purest way that language can be used. You just speak your lines with all the conviction, rhythm, and tone you can muster, which is why I’m talking about it on this blog: it is simply another form of music (or maybe music is another form of pure language?) and is too good to describe here; basically, it’s a personal thing you’re going to have to experience yourself.
(I also recommend you watch / listen to ‘Apology’ and ‘Grandma’s Got It Going On’, by Shane too. And vote in the fucking poll, for fuckety-fuck’s sake.)
